Creating an orderly transition between hardwood and carpet from hard floor carpet can present a puzzling challenge unless you have the right materials and tools. A variety of wood moldings are available to create the transition. For a carpet under the wood transition stack, the easiest solution is a reducing wood molding, which would also work for a ceramic tile for the transition of the wood. A molding reducer is a wooden molding strip where one side of the strip is beveled and the top is flat.
Molding transition between hardwood and carpet reducer work for glue-down and wood nailed floors, as well as for floating wood floors. T-molding would work if the carpet and the wooden floor have the same height. T-molding is flat at the top and beveled on both sides. A keel of wood runs along the length of the molding at the bottom, giving it a T shape in profile. Give or create a 1-inch gap between the carpet and the wooden floor. If you need to create vacuum, pull the carpet again and cut with a carpet knife.
